Flexography also referred as flexo printing uses flexible relief plate for printing process. It can be used for printing on almost any type of surface including plastic, metallic films, cellophane, and paper thus presenting a modern version of letterpress.
The wide usage of Flexography is on the non-porous substrates which are required for various types of food packaging and is also well suited for printing large areas of solid colour.
The process of flexography involves using flexible photopolymer printing plates wrapped around rotating cylinders on a web press.
The image areas are raised slightly above the non image areas to transfer the ink from the ink roll which is kept partially immersed in the ink tank. To avoid any smudgy look, it is ensured that the ink transferred on printing plate is not excessive.
Advantages of Flexo Printing
– Prints on wide variety of substrates
– Printing is available using variety of ink types
– Highly efficient
– Quick drying time
– Capable of printing continous pattern
– Equipments require relatively low maintenence
